1. Service Description

Escape Hatch is operated by Colila Media and provides genealogical research to help you assess whether you may have a pathway to Canadian citizenship by descent under Bill C-3. Our service searches publicly available historical databases, cross-references records, and generates a research report with confidence scoring and source citations.

We offer a single product — Escape Hatch Canada Research — which delivers a complete research report, personalized document checklist, and step-by-step guidance. Details are described on our pricing page.

2. Important Disclaimer — Not Legal Advice

Escape Hatch is an informational research tool. We are not a law firm, and nothing in our service constitutes legal advice, immigration counsel, or a guarantee of any citizenship outcome.

Our research reports represent our best assessment based on the information you provide and the publicly available records we can access. These reports are not official government documents and are not a substitute for professional legal guidance.

We strongly recommend consulting a qualified immigration lawyer before submitting any citizenship application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Citizenship determinations are made solely by the Canadian government, not by Escape Hatch.

3. Service Tiers and Pricing

Escape Hatch Canada Research — $149 USD (one-time): Includes ancestry research, a complete research report with confidence scoring and source citations, a personalized document checklist, pre-drafted vital records request letters, and step-by-step guidance through the citizenship process. This is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

4. Payments and Refunds

All payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your credit card information.

Because our service delivers digital research results promptly after purchase, all sales are generally final. However, we understand that issues can arise. If you believe there was a technical error with your assessment, or if our service failed to deliver results, please contact us at hello@escapehatch.to within 14 days of purchase and we will review your case. Refund decisions are made at our discretion.

5. Accuracy and Limitations

Our research draws from publicly available databases including Find a Grave, WikiTree, and indexed vital records. While we make every effort to provide accurate and thorough results, we cannot ensure that our research will find every relevant record, that all identified connections are correct, or that your research results will match an official government determination.

The quality of your results depends significantly on the accuracy and completeness of the family information you provide. Incomplete or inaccurate inputs may lead to incomplete or inaccurate results.

6. User Responsibilities

You agree to provide family information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

You may not use the service for any unlawful purpose or to submit information about individuals without a reasonable basis for doing so.

You are responsible for reviewing any documents or letters before submitting them to government agencies. Escape Hatch provides research, drafts, and guidance, but you are the applicant.

7. Intellectual Property

Your research report and its contents are yours to use as you see fit. The Escape Hatch platform, interface, code, and branding remain the property of Colila Media. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or resell the Escape Hatch service or platform.

8. Limitation of Liability

Escape Hatch provides research results on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that results will be complete or accurate.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Colila Media’s total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid to us. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to lost profits, costs of a denied citizenship application, or reliance on assessment results.

9. Account Termination

You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Settings page. Upon deletion, your case data, research results, uploaded documents, and email logs are permanently removed. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that we reasonably believe are being used fraudulently.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the service shall be resolved in the courts of Massachusetts.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice on our website. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
